The Edina Caveat

Here is another poem I just wrote. Enjoy

The Edina Caveat
By Andrew D. Gadtke

Mops are out with the yellow warning sign
It's slick it tells me—caution with your stride
The bar is closed and yet I sit inside
Chatting with an Edina woman to pass the time
But I'll stick to the rules and shall abide

My newest lady friend writes some more
It's her info on a purest of white cocktail napkin
The time's been fine for chatting, there has been no sin
Innocent enough—it's me she seems to adore
And she doesn't mind I'm a conversation whore

She heads for the restroom but I feel bad vibes
I watch her disappear beyond the sight of mine
And I write a caveat of my own like the yellow sign
Beware of this Edina woman and her gold-digging jibes
She makes her treasures from sexual bribes

And I know not to engage
I shall remain at a distance
Wishing this had been the only instance
But I can't come together it says on the page
Unless the commitment is sealed by God for the age

What men often forget at night
This caveat will remind me by day
Only when there is no transfer of pay
Is love, love in God's sight
It's the desire for the other soul's delight
